Rahul Dravid gets offered Blank Cheques by IPL Franchises before joining Rajasthan Royals
Rahul Dravid came back to IPL and decided to join Rajasthan Royals (RR) as their head coach. Rahul has stayed away from the world of IPL for past 7 years in order to avoid conflict. He joined India U-19 and Team A in the form of their head coach, and had to pick between IPL and Team India.
In 2019, he became chairman of National Cricket Academy (NCA), and 2 years later was made India’s head coach. India saw success during the tenure of Dravid and also reached the final of the 2023 World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup.
During Dravid’s time with team India, the Men In Blue won the 2024 T20 World Cup. This mad Dravid the most-needed coach in the IPL phase.
It has been reported that high-profile IPL franchises have been sending blank cheques, but Dravid has decided to stay loyal to his franchise.
RR bought Dravid in the mega auctions of 2011 IPL. After he played for 3 years, Dravid join as the head coach for RR. He then shifted to Delhi Capitals for 2015-16 since RR was banned for 2 years.
Dravid decided to return to RR as he was done with coaching in international cricket. He will be working with the director of RR, Kumar Sangakkara.
“Rahul is one of the greatest players to have played the game, but what he has achieved over the past decade as a coach is extraordinary. The characteristics that he possesses as a coach to nurture talent but also enable them to consistently perform at the highest level, will allow the Rajasthan Royals to further challenge for the title. I’ve already had some meaningful conversations with him about his vision for this team, and he is looking forward to delivering the results for the Royals,” he said in RR’s release.
