Tottenham’s Cristian Romero shines for Argentina again – and the stats prove it
It will come as no surprise to Tottenham fans or followers of the Argentina national team, but Cristian Romero has just put in another top-quality performance for his country. Here, we take a look at the stats behind the display.
Argentina record big win
Argentina are currently trying to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, where they will look to defend their crown. In the past, World Champions have been given automatic qualification to the competition, but that rule has changed now.
Still, they needn’t worry, as it’s looking very likely La Albiceleste will be in the USA for the next World Cup, with their qualification campaign going pretty well.
They are currently top of the South American qualifier group with 18 points from seven games. Their latest victory, a 3-0 win over Chile, saw goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez, and Paulo Dybala secure the points.
However, it is the display of Spurs defender Cristian Romero that we are more concerned with here.
How did Romero do?
Aside from the obvious clean sheet, it was another top display from Romero, who continues to establish himself as one of the best centre-backs in the world.
As per Fotmob, Romero played the full 90 minutes and received a rating of 7.6 out of 10. He registered an 86% passing accuracy rate, with 59 of his 66 passes meeting their target.
Defensively, Romero made three clearances, two headed clearances, two interceptions, and six ball recoveries. He also won four out of his seven ground duels, and won his only aerial duel.
He even managed to get into attacking areas, with three touches in the opposition box, one successful dribble, and nine passes into the final third.
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs fans have been on the Cuti hype train for years now, but I feel like the world of football is slowly recognising that he is right up there as potentially the best centre-half in the game.
