Greece's prime minister says he will keep spending under wraps in a keynote speech
Greece’s prime minister says he will not allow excessive spending to derail the country’s recovery from the lengthy financial crisis that required an unprecedented infusion of funds from its creditors. In a key speech Saturday at the Thessaloniki International Fair, the country’s most prestigious trade event, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, “I have not come with a bag full of gifts,” But he offered pension and minimum wage hikes and measures, some EU-funded, to boost exports, help farmers, address housing shortages and boost the country's low birthrate. Despite a plunge in recent European elections, Mitsotakis' conservatives still dominate domestic politics and face little challenge from the two main opposition parties who are busy with their own internal divisions.
