Nicole Kidman Misses Best Actress Win at Venice Film Festival 2024 Due to Her Mother Janelle's Death

Nicole Kidman‘s mother Janelle Ann Kidman has sadly died.

On Saturday (September 7), the 57-year-old actress won the Best Actress award for her role in Babygirl at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.

However, Nicole was unable to attend the ceremony due to her mother’s passing.

Keep reading to find out more…Nicole promoted the new Halina Reijn-directed movie at the film festival late last month, but then left Italy for the press tour for her new Netflix series The Perfect Couple.

She then flew back to Venice for the awards ceremony, only to find out “shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has just passed,” Halina read aloud from a statement from Nicole during the ceremony.

“I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina,” Halina continued reading from Nicole‘s statement. “The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”

After reading Nicole‘s statement, Halina added, “We love you all, Nicole.”

A rep for Nicole confirmed Janelle‘s death to People and said “the family is heartbroken and asks for privacy at this time.”
