Sharp divisions persist over Walz's response to the riots that followed the murder of George Floyd

It was the biggest crisis of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's political career. The streets of Minneapolis and St. Paul erupted after a white Minneapolis police officer murdered George Floyd in 2020. The anger also devolved into looting and rioting that culminated with the burning of a police station. Now that the Democratic governor is Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, his actions and alleged inactions are under the microscope again. Sharp divisions remain over who should bear the bulk of the responsibility for not stopping the violence earlier. Meanwhile, several leaders of the police reform movement say Walz didn't go far enough afterward to promote police accountability.
