“Pleased to be…”: Rahul Dravid’s opening words on first day as RR head coach
A day after IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals (RR) officially announced legendary Indian batter Rahul Dravid as their head coach for the upcoming IPL season, they shared a video on their official X handle. In the video, the former Indian head coach can be seen arriving for a meeting to get down to work straight away.
Dravid, who stepped down from the role of Indian team’s head coach after guiding them to the T20 World Cup 2024 title in June, has been with RR during previous IPL seasons as well. He became the team’s mentor in 2014 after deciding to end his playing career a year prior, in 2013. He stepped down from the role of the franchise’s mentor in 2015.
“Hello! So this is where the IPL is won,” Dravid said while entering the meeting room.
“I am pleased to be returning to the franchise I have called ‘home’ for a number of years in the past. After the (T20) World Cup, I feel it’s the ideal time for me to take on another challenge, and the Royals is the perfect place to do that,” Dravid said.
Dravid donned the Rajasthan jersey from 2011-2013 and went on to lead the franchise back in 2012 and 2013. Under his captaincy, the team made it to the playoffs in the 2013 season and even to the final of the Champions League T20 tournament.
