Dejan Kulusevski as Sweden captain

Kulusevski wore the captain’s armband for the first time on Thursday as Sweden kicked off their Nations League campaign with a 3-1 win over Azerbaijan.

It was a clinical performance from the Scandinavian side, with the Tottenham man being one of the best players on the pitch as a brace from Alexander Isak and a goal from Viktor Gyokeres helped Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side get three points on the board.

Spurs youngster Lucas Bergvall also came on as a late substitute, with the 18-year-old winning what was just his second cap for his country.

Kulusevski is growing as a leader

It remains to be seen if Kulusevski will keep the captain’s armband when Andreas Christensen returns from injury but Augustinsson believes that the Tottenham man deserves to do so as he is a natural leader.

The Anderlecht told TV4 (04/09/24) about the 24-year-old: “He has natural leadership qualities. He is a pusher.

“He wants to move forward, he takes the initiative. He drives the team on the pitch and more and more in the dressing room.

“He is much more open and outgoing than before. He is growing more and more into a leader and he has a lot of experience at the highest level. It feels natural that it is he who takes the armband.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be quite surprised if Jon Dahl Tomasson does not make Kulusevski his full-time captain as not only is the Spurs star a natural leader, but he is also one of the most important players in this Swedish side.
