FanPost Friday: The Dan Wilson era has begun
How’s he doing so far?
Hello and welcome back to FanPost Friday. Before we get into this week’s topic, here’s your last reminder for tomorrow’s Tim Cantu MemoriaLL SoftbaLL game at Lower Woodlands ballfields near Green Lake! See you there! Post-game Mariners viewing party at Growler Guys on Lake City Way!
SoftbaLL is back once again! Hope to see y'all on Sept. 7 as we play some clumsy softball in memory of our dear friend @eutimioc2 #Mariners @LookoutLanding #TridentsUp https://t.co/OlBFm9fIcK

Okay, onto today’s topic. The dust from the firing of manager Scott Servais has mostly settled and the Mariners are still out here trying to salvage what’s left of 2024 season with new manager Dan Wilson at the helm. Dan Wilson’s very new and fresh managerial career record sits at a very respectable 4-2 in an extremely small sample size.
Mid-season leadership replacements are a funny thing in professional sports. They happen more frequently in the NBA and NHL because sometimes those moves actually do help a team turn things around and make the playoffs. Most recently, the Edmonton Oilers fired their head coach 13 games into last season and then they made the Stanley Cup Finals.
In MLB, it’s a bit more rare that midseason firings lead to a playoff birth, but it happened twice in 2022 with the Phillies and Blue Jays (and then what happened.gif).
So, stepping into a deeply flawed team like the 2024 Seattle Mariners with about a month to go in the season and righting the ship in time to scrape into the playoffs feels like a Herculean task, but stranger things have certainly happened in baseball.
That said, it’s time to hit the polls! How is Dan Wilson doing so far?
Okay, well get after it one more time in the nice weather this weekend folks! Hope to see lots of folks at softbaLL tomorrow!
