Cornish beach users are angry after a large piece of concrete mysteriously appeared and blocked a natural beauty spot.

The large block appeared on Whipsiderry beach near Newquay on Saturday.

The beach can now only be accessed at low tide as steps to reach it have been closed off due to the risk of cliff falls.

A spokesperson for the Duchy of Cornwall which owns the land confirmed the block was an ‘unauthorised modification’ and said the public should ‘not be carrying out amendments to the beach’.

Leah Steward found the blocks during a walk on Saturday, telling the BBC it was being used to ‘create a dam in the natural drainage channel’.

She said: ‘I was quite shocked. I had a chat with another dog walker and he asked if the pool had always been there and it was much deeper than it usually was.

‘It’s a natural pool on a natural beach and people don’t want to see a big breeze block there.’

She theorised someone was trying to prolong their wild swimming in the pools.

Leah added: ‘Please can Whipsiderry be left wild, enjoy the pools in their wild natural state.

‘No-one wants to see concrete here.’

A Duchy of Cornwall spokesperson said: ‘We would ask the public not to carry out amendments to the beach and simply enjoy the beautiful landscape.’
