Oliver Bearman to Replace Kevin Magnussen at F1's Azerbaijan Grand Prix After Race Ban

Oliver Bearman is getting to drive in another Formula 1 race this year!

The 19-year-old driver made his F1 debut earlier this year with Ferrari, filling in for Carlos Sainz when he was out sick, and now he’ll be driving once again at the upcoming 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

Oliver, who is a reserve driver for both Ferrari and Haas, will be jumping into the seat of a Haas car next weekend, as Kevin Magnussen received a race ban and will be unable to drive in that grand prix.

“It’s definitely more of a challenge stepping in to race as a reserve driver, with limited prep-time and so on, but I’m in the fortunate position of having done it earlier in the year with Scuderia Ferrari, so I can at least call on that experience,” Oliver shared.

“I’ve also had four FP1 sessions with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team in the VF-24 already this season, so undoubtedly that will also prove to be valuable in tackling the full race weekend in Baku,” he continued. “The team is in good form at the moment and I’ll do my best to be prepared with the time we have available. The aim is to get out there and have a solid weekend in Azerbaijan.”

At the Italian Grand Prix in Monza last weekend, Kevin received a 10 second penalty for hitting wheels with Pierre Gasly when tryin to pass. This brought his penalty points to 12 for the season, causing the FIA to serve a race ban for the next race.

Speaking of Monza, Oliver won his second Formula 2 race there that same weekend by taking first place in the sprint race.

When filling in for Sainz at Ferrari earlier this year, Oliver scored six points for the team after coming in seventh place.

If you missed it, back in June, it was announced that Oliver will be promoted to Formula 1 with Haas, making him the only confirmed 2025 driver for the team so far.
