England captain Ollie Pope marked a beautiful century on the first day of Test against Sri Lanka. Though he struggled to find his flow in the previous two Tests, Pope found his rhythm on the third one, as he scored 103 runs.

The century by Pope helped England reach a strong score of 221/3, which is impressive since they had lost the toss and were told to bat in the conditions which were in favour of bowlers.

Even after the bad light, unstable weather and rain, Sri Lanka failed to take advantage of the conditions. Pope shared a partnership of 95 runs with Ben Duckett who scored 86 runs in 79 balls.

Though Root mad only 13 runs in the partnership of 51 in the third wicket, it was the century by Pope which showed England’s dominance. even after the possibility of the game being extended, the lights that have been getting low might make the game difficult to continue. The players were taken off the field at 17:54 (5:54 PM), when the first delivery of 45th over was bowled.
