Virginia man sentenced in bank robbery conspiracy

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Brian Tierney, 31, of Lynchburg, Virginia was sentenced on Thursday for conspiring to commit a bank robbery. According to the United States Department of Justice, Tierney was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.

As part of his guilty plea, Tierney admitted to agreeing to and planning an armed robbery at a bank in Johnstown, New York, with two-conspirators Luke Kenna and Michael Brown, Jr., between November 14, 2022, and November 27, 2022. All men pleaded guilty to the charges against them.

Charges:

  • Conspiracy to commit bank robbery
  • Possession of a firearm as a prohibited person

Kenna and Brown allegedly conducted surveillance of the bank and Kenna allegedly purchased weapons and other items to commit the robbery. Tierney allegedly ordered handgun parts and sent pictures of a handgun, radio scanning and jamming devices to use in the robbery.

In addition to Tierney's prison sentence, he was sentenced to a three-year term of post-release supervision. In June, Kenna was sentenced to three years and five months in prison while Brown was sentenced to three years and one month in prison.
