Report: Tottenham legend in line to become new manager of Asteras Tripolis

Football Insider reveal Robbie Keane is in advanced talks to take over as the manager of Greek side Asteras Tripolis.

Keane is considered by many Spurs fans to be one of the club’s greatest strikers of the Premier League era, alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Jermain Defoe.

The striker made 306 appearances for Tottenham across two spells, scoring 122 goals and registering 32 assists (Transfermarkt).

He is also the Republic of Ireland’s all-time leading goalscorer, having found the back of the net 68 times in 146 caps for his country.

After hanging up his boots in 2018, Keane began his coaching career by working as assistant to Jonathan Woodgate and Sam Allardyce at Middlesbrough and Leeds United respectively.

Keane could be the new Tripolis manager

He took the top job for the first time last summer, signing as the manager at Maccabi Tel Aviv but despite winning the Israeli league title last season, he resigned from the club earlier this summer.

The 44-year-old is now the leading candidate to replace Milan Rastavac as Asteras Tripolis head coach, with Football Insider revealing that the Spurs legend is currently in Greece to hold final talks.

I am sure that many clubs in England, including the Tottenham hierarchy, will be keeping a close eye on Keane’s development as a coach.

Should the Irishman do well in Greece on the back of his impressive stint in Israel, he will certainly not be short of job offers in the UK.
