Tottenham release statement on reports they were against UEFA ticket price caps
Tottenham have reportedly released a statement regarding claims that the club was against new UEFA ticket price caps for away matches.
Tottenham said to be against ticket price caps
The Telegraph’s Matt Law reported earlier this week that Tottenham Hotspur were thought to be one of at least three clubs who objected to UEFA’s decision to cap the prices for travelling fans.
UEFA have introduced a new rule in an effort to make ticket prices across the continent more affordable for supporters.
According to the new ruling from European football’s governing body, the ticket prices for away matches in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League will be capped at a fixed amount.
Travelling fans now will not have to pay more than £50 for a single ticket to a Champions League game, £33 for a Europa League game and £16 for a Conference League game (The Daily Express).
Tottenham release a statement on these claims
The original report claimed that Spurs did not want this rule change to come to fruition, and were thought to be one of at least three clubs to oppose the proposal.
However, it was pointed out that it remained unclear as to whether Spurs actually voted against the proposal. The North London club also did not comment when contacted by The Telegraph.
However, Football Insider say that Tottenham did comment to them about the allegation, with the club’s statement reading: “It is factually incorrect to state that there was a vote on this matter at the UEFA Club Competitions Committee. It is therefore entirely inaccurate to say that the Club voted against ticket price caps.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It is certainly very much in character for Levy and Spurs to be opposed to the change, with Tottenham’s ticket prices being one of the highest in Europe.
They also don’t deny that they were against it, just that they didn’t vote against it so the statement doesn’t clear things up that much really.
