President reiterates readiness for Cyprus talks
President Nikos Christodoulides reiterated that he is ready to come to the dialogue table of the Cyprus problem based on the agreed solution framework.
Speaking at meeting in Polemidia of the refugee association Olympos, the president also said he would return to the negotiating table based on the acquis and EU principles and values.
He added that it is vital to remain united.
“I will not tire of repeating that the current state of affairs, the status quo, is not only not sustainable, not only cannot be the future of our country, but also poses the most serious risks. And it is for this reason that our main priority is none other than the liberation and reunification of our country,” he added.
He also assured that, as president, he honours “the contract of honour that I promised to each and every one of you with my election” and continues to work to end the deadlock and resume the Cyprus settlement talks.
“I am fully prepared to come to the dialogue table, always on the basis of the agreed framework to seek a solution on the basis of the agreed framework, the negotiating acquis and certainly the principles and values of the European Union, of which the Republic of Cyprus is a member and will continue to be a member after the resolution of the Cyprus problem,” he added.
He also said he was ready “to unite in order to achieve our top national achievement, which is none other than the reunification of our country and our people, for a viable and promising future for our children, in a modern European homeland, without barbed wire, without occupation troops and anachronistic guarantees”.
At the same time, he stressed that in this great effort to achieve this top national goal, “it is vital that we remain united – our party is Cyprus and nothing else – to keep hope alive and continue to work with a plan, with confidence and with optimism”.
