Jennings mayor reflects on city's growth in economic development

0

JENNINGS, La. (KLFY) -- The city of Jennings has seen exponential growth in its economic development with at least $75 million invested in the community in the last seven years.

Jennings Mayor Henry Guinn said the city has seen an increase in its development in recent years. One of the driving factors of this is investments made to make the city a place that attracts victors and retains residents.

"If you look at the total growth over seven years for a city the size of 10,000 people. Not many people can touch what we're doing right now," he said.

The mayor said the local government is a firm believer that aesthetics matter.

"What your town looks like, how it operates, how traffic flows. It all goes into that investment," he said.

Guinn said the city can boast new businesses, a new elementary school, and plans to renovate and build two fire stations, in addition to a $22 million investment in Ochsner American Legion Hospital. He said the development Jennings is experiencing could serve as a model for rural development.

"Jennings should be a pilot program for rural development. The things that are happening right now in Jennings and Jeff Davis Parish, I don't think many cities our size can rival not many rural cities," he said.

Guinn said it's an honor to be elected not once, but twice as the city's mayor and be a part of something as pivotal as witnessing the growth of the Jennings.

"It's a testament to the city of Jennings, the local government, and our ability to work very easily with these different investment groups. So, it's very exciting times right now for the city of Jennings," he said.
