Germany proposes migrant deportation plan to Rwanda

0

Joachim Stamp, the Federal Commissioner for Migration in Germany, discussed the possibility of transferring illegal migrants from Germany to Rwanda on Thursday, September 5.

Stamp accused Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of encouraging Afghan, Syrian, and Iraqi migrants to travel to EU countries. He described this as part of a “hybrid war” by Moscow and Minsk against Europe.

He stressed that Russia and Belarus are “deliberately pushing migrants across the eastern borders of the European Union.”

Following a recent deadly attack in the city of Solingen, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his coalition government are under intense pressure from right-wing parties to revise their migration policies.

On August 23rd, an attacker armed with a knife targeted attendees at a festival in Solingen, Germany, which was celebrating the city’s 650th anniversary.

The attack resulted in three deaths and eight injuries, with the victims being transported to medical facilities.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack the following day, stating that it was carried out by one of its members to “avenge Muslims in Palestine and other regions.”

Two days after the attack, Germany identified the suspect in the Solingen attack as a 26-year-old Syrian man who had surrendered to the police. Investigations into his potential links to ISIS are ongoing.

Stamp suggested that illegal migrants who enter Germany through Russia and Belarus and cannot be returned to their home countries could be transferred to a third country like Rwanda.

In response to the deadly Solingen attack, Chancellor Scholz pledged stricter immigration policies and increased deportations of illegal migrants. He emphasized the need to ensure that those who do not have the right to stay in Germany are sent back to their countries.

Germany has already begun implementing these policies by deporting Afghan migrants on August 31. According to government spokesperson Stephen Hebstreit, these individuals were “convicted criminals” who had been ordered to leave Germany.

The recent success of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in state elections is seen as a sign that at least some segments of German society are pushing for changes in immigration policies. This nationalist party is known for its strong opposition to large-scale immigration.
