'Boiling mad': Virginia GOP 'seeking revenge' after their leader’s Trump-inflicted loss

Virginia Republicans who supported House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good (R-VA) are not pleased with the congressman's primary loss last month to his far-right opponent, John McGuire, according to a Thursday Washington Post report.

When Good endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over Donald Trump for the presidency, the former president turned on the Virginia congressman, and did everything in his power to ensure the Freedom Caucus leader lost to McGuire.

Ahead of the November election, Good's Republican supporters are vowing to do what they can to ensure the Virginia lawmaker prevails over McGuire.

"I’ll do a write-in," Republican Rob Reese told the Post.

GOPers like Reese "are boiling mad and seeking revenge, with plans to write in Good or to even vote for Witt," the newspaper emphasizes.

Former Campbell County Republican Party chairman Tim Boyer said, "I am as unmotivated as I ever have been in my life," adding "that he definitely will not vote for McGuire and might not vote for Trump, either, upset that the former president undermined Good and watered down the national party platform on issues where Good never flinched, abortion and same-sex marriage."

The state's GOP chairman Rich Anderson told the Post, "I do believe there are people who are devoted to Bob and who will stay with him regardless, but I think the vast majority know that we have a nominee who’s going to be a conservative federal legislator, and they can support him with peace of mind."

University of Lynchburg political science chair David Richards suggests party infighting will be ongoing in the coming weeks.

"There’s still this idea that, somehow, things weren’t quite right and there was some sort of injustice," he said. "They’re not fighting over ideological issues. It’s kind of like two alpha dogs fighting in the yard."
