Kumar Sangakkara to leave Rajasthan Royals amid Rahul Dravid’s return: Report
Rahul Dravid’s return to Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Rajasthan Royals as head coach has resulted a big shuffle in the franchise’s management. With former India batting coach, Vikram Rathour also reportedly set to join him as an assistant coach in the franchise, it has been reported that the franchise’s Director of Cricket Operations, Kumar Sangakkara is looking for an exit.
A report has now come out stating that Sangakkara has already begun talks with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the mentor’s role, hoping to replace Gautam Gambhir.
KKR are also set to undergo a major change in coaching personnel after Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate all departed to coach the Indian team.
As per a report in Telegraph India, KKR are in advanced talks with Sangakkara for the mentor’s role, though the Sri Lanka great also has offers from some other franchises. A decision is expected to be finalized in the next few days.
Sangakkara has been one of the pillars in Rajasthan’s consistent performances over the last few years. He joined the Royals in 2021 and helped the team qualify for the IPL final in 2022 under Sanju Samson’s captaincy. In IPL 2024, Rajasthan finished in the No. 3 position before getting defeated by the Sunrisers Hyderabad and failing to reach the final.
