Harris campaign announces $361M fundraising haul in August

Vice President Harris’s campaign raised $361 million in August and has $404 million in cash on hand going into the last two months before Election Day, it announced Friday.

Since Harris launched her campaign in July, after President Biden dropped out of the race, her ticket has raised more than $615 million, according to the campaign.

The campaign touted that the August haul was nearly triple former President Trump’s haul. The Trump campaign raised $130 million in August, which it said on Wednesday was fueled almost entirely by donations of less than $200. The Trump campaign has $295 million in cash on hand.

The Harris campaign said that its August haul was the best grassroots fundraising month in presidential history after nearly 3 million donors contributed throughout the month and 1.3 million donors contributed for the first time this cycle. It also said that of the first-time donors, three-quarters did not contribute in the last presidential election.

Additionally, the campaign said that 95 percent of August donations were under $200 and that teachers and nurses are the most common donor occupations. Over 60 percent of donors in August were women, and almost a fifth of donors were registered Republicans or Independents, according to the campaign.

“As we enter the final stretch of this election, we’re making sure every hard-earned dollar goes to winning over the voters who will decide this election,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement. “Make no mistake: this election will be hard-fought and hard-won. But with the undeniable, organic support we are seeing, we are making sure we are doing everything possible to mobilize our coalition to defeat Donald Trump once and for all.”

The Harris campaign’s haul in July was $310 million, which brought its war chest at the time to $377 million. The full July total included money Biden raised when he was in the race, before passing the torch to Harris.

Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a memo earlier this month that the vice president had raised more than $540 million since she entered the race July 21, which is a historic amount for a candidate in that time frame.

The Harris campaign announced Tuesday it was sending nearly $25 million to Democratic committees to invest in downballot candidates to try to secure majorities in Congress.
