The hit programme, which first launched in 2020, will return for its fifth but last run.

Deadline reports that the final instalment will consist of 12 episodes, with the finale tipped for early 2025.

911: Lone Star followed New York-based firefighter Captain Strand as he moved from the capital to Texas.

Fans watched as the character – played by Rob Lowe – tried to carry out his role while battling his own demons.

Unlike its mothership 911 moving to rival network ABC after its axe from Fox, Lone Star is not expected to follow suit.

Paying tribute to its stars, FOX TV’s Network President Michael Thorn said: “From the start, fans have followed the heroic and deeply moving stories of the men and women who make up Austin’s 126, so a huge thanks to one of the greatest creative teams in all of television — Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear — for creating one of the most action-packed dramas anywhere.

“Now in our final season of the show, we’re set to give it the high-stakes send-off it deserves, complete with breathless rescues, insurmountable odds and relatable personal struggles, thanks to our incomparable, stellar cast led by Rob Lowe and Gina Torres.”

Taking to social media, fans have been left devastated by the news as they hit out at the decision.

One snapped: “What is with fox cancelling all the good shows. 911 lone star is a fantastic show.”

A second wrote: “It’s really happening 911 Lone Star is actually over….”

“The next season of 911 Lone Star will be it’s last?! I can’t have nothing,” said a third.

While a fourth commented: “RIP 911 lone star you were my baby from the very first episode and you had an excellent run.”
