FMs of Cyprus, Greece, Egypt to meet
A trilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt will take place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York between September 22 and 29, it was announced on Friday.
The meeting will assess progress in areas of trilateral cooperation, such as energy, defence and diaspora issues.
According to the government, the gathering in New York also presents an opportunity “for discussions and coordination on strategic matters, addressing common challenges and regional issues of mutual concern, such as developments in the region and aspects of EU-Egypt relations.
“This has become a regular meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, offering a chance for better preparation for upcoming official ministerial or high-level trilateral meetings,” the government said, adding that this year’s meeting is expected to help prepare for the 10th Trilateral Summit, set to take place in Egypt.
Additionally, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos will hold a separate meeting with his Egyptian counterpart as part of the ongoing coordination between the two ministers.
“Both countries are strategic partners that have worked closely to build stable relations based on principles of honesty, trust, shared interests and transparency. Efforts are ongoing to further promote and deepen these long-standing ties,” the govern ent said.
It added that the relationship between Cyprus and Egypt, as well as regional developments, were discussed during a recent phone call between the foreign ministers of both countries.
