Pakistan claims increasing number of Afghan citizens joining TTP

General Sharif Chaudhry, the spokesperson for the Pakistani Army, announced that over the past month, 90 terrorists have been killed in military operations conducted by the army.

On Thursday, September 5, during a press conference in Islamabad, General Chaudhry emphasized that the fight against terrorism will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated. He reported that over the past eight months, the army has conducted 32,173 intelligence-based operations against terrorists, with 4,000 of these operations occurring in the last month alone.

Chaudhry noted that the army has carried out 130 daily operations against terrorism over these eight months, resulting in the deaths of 193 soldiers.

He also claimed that an increasing number of Afghan citizens are joining the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) due to its influence.

He highlighted that following the Taliban’s rise to power in Afghanistan, there has been an increase in logistical and training support for terrorist groups within the country. Chaudhry warned that these groups have gained access to military equipment left behind by the U.S. in Afghanistan. He also urged Taliban officials not to prioritize terrorists over the Pakistani government.

Chaudhry stressed that Pakistan and the Taliban are in negotiations and asserted that efforts to sow discord between the two brotherly nations would be unsuccessful. He reminded that Pakistan has consistently supported Afghanistan in difficult times.

In recent months, the Pakistani military has intensified its operations against militants in border regions with Afghanistan. Pakistani officials claim that the TTP orchestrates many deadly attacks in the country from Afghan territory.

Last week, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry requested that the Taliban hand over TTP members to the Pakistani government. However, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban, stated in an interview with a Pakistani media outlet that the TTP is an internal issue for Pakistan and does not concern the Taliban.

As the situation evolves, it remains crucial for both countries to address cross-border terrorism and collaborate on security issues. Continued dialogue and cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan could be key to mitigating tensions and improving regional stability.
