Getaway travel chaos as flights are cancelled at Heathrow and delays on M25

The weekend getaway travel has been disrupted after flights were cancelled at Heathrow Airport and delays hit Gatwick trains.

British Airways has axed several flights today from Heathrow. Cancelled destinations include morning flights to Barcelona and Paris.

Meantime on the rail network, commuters out of London towards Gatwick Airport faced delays due to a trespasser on the line near East Croydon. Trains had to run at a reduced speed until they were found and taken to safety.

As for the roads, flooding has closed a lane on the M25 near Chertsey, Surrey, which is causing delays clockwise on the motorway.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in London, south of England and Wales, and it is likely to cause travel disruption until midnight.
