In an interview with Vogue magazine, Gaga said: “My mom met him and she said to me, ‘I think I just met your husband,’ and I said, ‘I’m not ready to meet my husband!’.
“I could never have imagined that my mom found the most perfect person for me.”
Recalling their meeting at a party in December 2019, the Bad Romance singer said: “I got invited and I said, ‘I wonder if Michael is going to be there,’ and my mom said yes.
“And so I went to the party and I kept asking for him and he finally came over to me and we talked for three hours.
“We had the most amazing conversation.”
They moved in together four months later when the Covid pandemic struck.
She said: “I’d been so focused on my career since I was a teenager.
“And the gift of that time was that I got to completely focus on my relationship.
“I met this totally supportive, loving human being, who wanted to get to know me — outside of Lady Gaga.”
The couple will not be short of a bob or two as she has an estimated £230million fortune while Michael is reportedly worth around £450million.
Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, has been engaged twice before — first to Chicago Fire actor Taylor Kinney, 43, in 2015, and then talent agent Christian Carino, 55, in 2018.
She said: “I kind of thought I was going to have to do this all by myself, forever. And that was really scary — because it’s a big life.
“And I don’t think anyone really knows what it feels like unless you’re in it.
I feel like this new album, in a lot of ways, is about that time but from a place of happiness instead of misery.

“And I don’t have to do this alone anymore. I think what I want my fans to know is that I’m just, like, so happy. I’m healthy.”
Gaga, who has sold more than 170 million records, is preparing for the release of new film Joker: Folie à Deux next month.
She plays Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix, 49.
It will be followed by a new single later in October and her seventh studio album in February.
Reflecting on her 2021 tour, following years suffering with the chronic condition fibromyalgia, she said: “Michael and I did that together. I did it pain-free!
“I feel like this new album, in a lot of ways, is about that time but from a place of happiness instead of misery.
“And now, Michael and I are really excited to organize our lives — and our marriage — around our creative output as a couple.”
