The suspect in a Wednesday school shooting in Georgia has been charged with four felony counts of murder, one for each death in the mass shooting.

Fourteen-year-old Colt Gray allegedly killed two students and two teachers, injuring several more, when he opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga.

“Gray has been charged with 4 counts of felony murder in connection to the shooting at Apalachee HS yesterday,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said in a post on the social platform X.

Gray was taken to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center, where he is awaiting additional charges. His first appearance before a judge will be Friday at 8:30 a.m.

GBI said autopsies of the four victims will be performed Thursday by the medical examiner’s office. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

“This is day 2 of a very complex investigation & the integrity of the case is paramount,” GBI’s post said. “We ask for the public’s patience as we work to ensure a successful prosecution & justice for the victims.”

Earlier Thursday, the FBI revealed Gray had been interviewed last year about previous threats after the agency received “several anonymous tips” about online comments Gray made about committing a school shooting. The FBI said it reviewed the information and relayed it to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for action.

At a campaign rally Wednesday, Vice President Harris went off script to address the shooting, calling it a “senseless tragedy.” Harris said the country must end its gun violence epidemic “once and for all.”

President Biden said in a statement that his administration will coordinate with law enforcement officials at all levels.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) said in an online post that he directed all state resources to respond to the scene.
