COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting outside a Waffle House near the Ohio State University Campus has been arrested.

According to Michael Black with the United States Marshal’s Office, Southern District of Ohio, Jaquan Curry was arrested in Canal Winchester on Byrn Moor Lane by the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team. He is charged in the murder of 38-year-old Ronald Diggs, who was shot and killed April 29.

According to officers at the scene, police were called to the Waffle House restaurant on North High Street in the University District at around 2:30 a.m. that Monday morning. Upon arrival one person was found shot in the chest outside of the business.

Police said that a fight between 15 and 20 people began inside of the restaurant and spilled out into the street, across from the Ohio Union on campus. There, one person, later identified as Diggs, was shot. Diggs was found on the sidewalk in front of Midway bar and restaurant, a couple of buildings north on North High St.

Franklin County Municipal court documents state that Curry was identified as the suspect after a witness told police Curry reportedly punched a man before pulling out a gun and shooting Diggs.

Diggs was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m. Two other people were injured during the fight and treated at a local hospital.

Curry, who was also charged with using weapons while intoxicated in Dec. 2022, had a warrant for his arrest issued the day of the shooting. Court records do not yet have a scheduled arraignment date post arrest.
