Unlike Gen Z, Millennials and Gen X get frisky in the bedroom more often, averaging five times a month[/caption]

According to the data, it’s not good news to Gen Z – who despite being young and full of live, are having less sex, fewer partners and not as many relationships as their parents.

The report, titled ”The State of Dating: How Gen Z is Redefining Sexuality and Relationships” is based on survey results from over 3,310 people of the dating app, Feeld.

The members of the popular platform, who came from 71 different countries, including the UK, the Netherlands and Canada, ranged in age from 18-75.

After gathering data about the bedroom antics worldwide, the researchers found that on average, the younger people said they had had sex three times in the past month.

Meanwhile, Millennials and Gen X, reported higher figures, averaging around five times per month.

Just like Gen Z respondents, Boomers, too, had been frisky three times in the last four weeks.

”Gen Z and Boomers exhibited nearly identical sexual frequencies, suggesting that both the youngest and oldest adults are having the least sex,” the researchers, led by Dr Justin Lehmiller, wrote in the report.

”Also, nearly half of Gen Z reported that they were single, compared to only one-fifth of Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers.”

However, while they may be having the least sex, it seems that the younger generation is the most adventurous when it comes to trying out new things in the bedroom.

A staggering 55 per cent of Gen Z said they’d discovered a new kink since joining Feeld, whereas for Millennials this number was 49 per cent of Millennials, 39 per cent of Gen X, and 33 per cent of Boomers.

”There are at least two explanations for this,” the researchers reckoned.

”One is simply that older adults have had more time to learn and discover what they enjoy about sex, so they may have already uncovered their kinks.

”However, the other is that it also appears to be the case that younger adults today have a greater overall interest in kink than older adults, which may create greater openness to exploring and learning about one’s kinks.”

Kinks and Desires

  • Gen Z was the most likely to say that they had discovered a new kink since joining Feeld (55%), followed by Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers (49%, 39%, and 33%, respectively).
  • 56% of Gen Z reported having BDSM fantasies
  • 52% of Millennials reported having BDSM fantasies
  • 31% of Gen X reported having BDSM fantasies
  • 12% of Boomers reported having BDSM fantasies.

The researchers also looked into the relationship structure and style that’s preferred for each generation – and members of each group expressed strikingly different preferences.

Among Gen Z, monogamy was actually the single most preferred relationship type (23%), while for Millennials and Gen X, it was ethical non-monogamy (24% and 27%, respectively).

Boomers, however, reported it was friends with benefits (27%).

The experts behind the project hope the findings help shed light on the evolution of sex, sexuality, relationships and gender.

”Despite the longstanding tendency of humans to narrowly categorize sexuality and relationships, they have always existed on a continuum, and that continuum will only evolve and expand further as Gen Z and future generations continue their pursuit of sexual and relational self-discovery.

”The more that we can understand and embrace this simple fact of human life, the better suited we will all be to pursuing pleasure and happiness.”
