WATCH: MS Dhoni Makes Tollywood Debut, Appears In Thalapathy Vijay’s GOAT, Fans Can’t Stay Calm
MS Dhoni life might have been recreated on the silver screen many years back with ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Screen’ but the former captain himself has never appeared on the big screen. But that was until Thursday (September 5) when Thalapathy Vijay’s latest movie GOAT (Greatest of all time) was released.
The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper makes a brief appearance in Vijay’s movie ‘GOAT’ which was released on Thursday to make his Tollywood debut. The scene depicts Dhoni walking into bat at the Chepauk in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match involving CSK with Vijay riding a back on the top of the stadium’s roof.

Fans in Chennai couldn’t keep calm as ‘Thala’ and ‘Thalapathy’ united for the first time on the silver screen. Dhoni has massive following around the world but especially in Chennai, having led CSK since it’s inception in 2008.
Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated film ‘GOAT’ (The Greatest of All Time) had a solo release on September 5, 2024. The movie, directed by Venkat Prabhu, is significant as it is likely to be Vijay’s second-to-last project before he moves to a political career. He has already launched his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, and is preparing to contest the Tamil Nadu state elections in 2026.
Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain earlier this year with opener Ruturaj Gaikwad taking over. There’s no clarity if the wicketkeeper-batter will return as a player next season and it will depend on Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decision to continue with ‘Impact Player’ rule. Dhoni himself hasn’t taken a call and hinted it will depend on the next auction.
“There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team,” said Dhoni at a promotional event in Hyderabad earlier this year.
