Okypy contract workers outraged over meeting delay

Unions representing contract workers at the state health services Okypy have expressed their deep disappointment over what they describe as unacceptable delays and inconsistencies by the organisation.

Okypy postponed a scheduled meeting with the unions over collective agreements at the last minute on September 5. The meeting, set by the organisation in mid-July, was originally delayed to allow more time for preparation.

Negotiations for collective agreements have been ongoing for three years, resulting in strikes by workers.

Following interventions from the health ministry and several months of discussions, the unions submitted their final proposal on June 10, reflecting compromises made during the process. Okypy did not respond and postponed the meeting scheduled for June 13 to September 5, only to postpone it again to a date yet to be set.

“Okypy’s repeated delays demonstrate a lack of respect for social dialogue and collective negotiations,” the unions said in a statement released on Thursday.

“The organisation’s actions have led the talks to a deadlock, with responsibility lying solely with them,” the statement said, adding that the unions are planning to meet soon to decide their next steps.

The statement was co-signed by unions Pasydy, Sek, Peo, Deok, Pasyki, Pasyno.
