Condition of toddler ‘critical but stable’

The condition of the two-year-old girl who got hit by a car in Limassol on Tuesday remains critical but stable, according to state health services organisation (Okypy) Charalambos Charilaou.

Speaking to the Cyprus Mail on Thursday, he said the girl is still intubated at Makario hospital with a brain haemorrhage, closely monitored by doctors.

The accident which unfolded on Tuesday afternoon at Makarios Avenue happened when the child saw her father across the street and excitedly tried to reach him.

She had been on the pavement with her mother before seeing her father on the opposite side of the road. In her excitement, the two-year-old girl leaped into the street and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver, a 39-year-old man, was not speeding and had tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

Police spokesperson Christos Andreou said the child was initially taken to Limassol general hospital but due to the severity of the situation was transferred to Makario hospital.
