Sports briefs: Tam tennis picks up win against Novato

Siena Moglen and Annika Hakes grabbed wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles spots, respectively, to lead the Tam High girls tennis team to a 7-0 win against Novato on Tuesday.

Maya Riisgaard and Scarlett Wilson also had singles wins for the Red-tailed Hawks.

  • Jennie Liu and Alessia Bailliet won the top two singles matches as Redwood rolled to a 7-0 win against Terra Linda on Tuesday. The Giants also got singles wins from Julia Laury and Gwenn Ricordel.
  • Payton Greco, Ellie Damiani, Lindsay Lotter, and Isa Quesada swept the singles matches to lift Marin Catholic to a 7-0 win against San Rafael on Tuesday.

Girls golf

Lexi Ferguson and Adriana Livengood both carded 44s to lead Marin Catholic to a 185-222 victory against Archie Williams on Tuesday. Chloe Cooke shot a 48 for the Wildcats. The Peregrine Falcons, who defeated Novato 222-255 in the other matchup, were led by Mirabelle Davis’ 48.

Men’s golf

Former Tam High standout Ben Friedman took third place at the the 2024 California State Fair Men’s Championship, which concluded on Monday at Haggin Oaks, the Alister MacKenzie Course. Friedman birdied the final two holes to finish at 11-under par, just one stroke back of the leaders.

Girls volleyball

Three different players registered double-digit digs as Novato took down Sonoma Valley in four sets, 21-25, 25-20, 2517, 25-20 on Tuesday. Zoie Halsing had team highs with 15 kills, 12 digs, and four aces for the Hornets (4-5), who also got 11 digs from Talia Anand and 10 digs from Darci Blackman. Petra Rabb had 33 assists and Allie Tubach added nine kills.

College lacrosse

Dominican University announced on Wednesday that it would be joining the Mountain East Conference for women’s lacrosse next season.

“We are thrilled to have Dominican University of California join the MEC as an associate member in the sport of women’s lacrosse,” MEC Commissioner Reid Amos said. “This innovative and strategic partnership provides an opportunity for Dominican’s women’s lacrosse team to compete for a conference championship for the first time while also creating a path for the MEC’s tournament champion to earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Championship in the first year of AQ for this growing sport.

Men’s soccer

Adrian DeLeon made nine saves for College of Marin, which remained winless on the season following a 1-0 loss against De Anza on Tuesday. The Mariners (0-5) fell behind when Whitaker Tollmann scored for De Anza in the 61st minute.
