Internet laughs at latest Tim Walz 'scandal' — his childhood car sickness

Declarations from Tim Walz's brother promising the Minnesota governor isn't the "type of character" America wants as vice president drew laughs on social media Wednesday after revelations of the latest Walz "scandal" — his car sickness as a child.

Walz's brother Jeff, an avid supporter of Donald Trump, has openly opposed his governor's brother's politics. Jeff teased "stories" he could tell when writing about it on Facebook, implying there were faux scandals involving the Democratic vice presidential running mate.

Over the past few weeks, Walz has faced right-wing attacks over a joke he made in a video with Vice President Kamala Harris that he can't handle spicy food — when his hotdish recipe won a contest — as well as a photo of his dog Scout. In the second incident, conservatives alleged Walz either made up the dog or didn't know the difference between his dog and another, but video of the incident showed Scout simply making a friend at the dog park and Walz petting the new friend.

Now, Politico's afternoon Playbook reported that Jeff Walz's proclamation of "stories I could tell" about his brother has conservatives wondering about the latest dirt on the Democratic running mate.

Jeff's claim "sparked delight in MAGA world over comments he made on Facebook suggesting that he supports Trump’s campaign and has reservations about his sibling," Playbook wrote.

According to the elder Walz, the "stories" indicated that the governor was "not the type of character you want making decisions about your future."

When questioned about the "stories," however, the Walz brothers, who still live in Nebraska, explained that they were nothing untoward. Rather, Tim Walz, as a child, would get profoundly motion sick.

“I’ll give you one example,” Jeff Walz said to News Nation. “My little brother, when we were younger, we would go on family trips in a station wagon. And the thing was, nobody wanted to sit with him, because he had car sickness and would always throw up on us, that sort of thing.”

It led to some laughter on X because it was yet another non-scandal while Donald Trump is fending off questions about whether he accepted $10 million from Egypt for his campaign.

Sam Deutsch, a former Jeopardy! champion, joked, "From the geniuses who brought you 'Tim Walz pet someone else’s dog' and 'Tim Walz lied about his tolerance for spicy foods,' here comes the latest Tim Walz scandal: He… got car sickness as a kid. lmfao"

Mike Elk, a former writer for The Guardian and In These Times, posted the full quote in a meme noting, "His brother says that’s as bad as the dirt gets on Tim."

Columnist and MSNBC editor Zeeshan Aleem laughed.

Vanity Fair contributing editor Franklin Leonard posted on X, "They got him. It's over," his comments dripping with sarcasm. "Vice Presidents can't have had carsickness in their youth. It's in the Constitution."

"That Happens" podcast host Spencer Crittenden fake-raged, "I’m so sick of the left denying Walz’s many personal issues as a candidate, such as his childhood motion sickness, or the fact that his son loves him."
