Winchester coroner’s court heard Mr Dymond, who had previously been sectioned, was “actively suicidal” just six weeks before going on TV.

But the ex-RNLI lifeboatman, of Portsmouth, was “desperate” to appear.

His first application was refused after he failed a medical questionnaire.

But he re-applied, having “very aggressively” obtained a letter from his GP.

Mr Dymond said it was a “matter of life and death” that he had to appear on the show to prove to his fiancee that he was faithful.

Neil Sheldon KC, representing Kyle, questioned Dr Rehman over why he did not include his full medical history in the letter.

The note stated that his mood had improved since getting back with his partner.

Mr Dymond died of a suspected overdose in May 2019.

Mr Kyle is due to give evidence today.
