Part of 17th Street to shut down for crane installation at Washburn University

0

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Construction work at Washburn University will cause some local roads to be closed to traffic this month.

Joseph Harrington with the City of Topeka announced in a press release that as of Monday, Sept. 9 work crews will close Southwest 17th Street between Southwest Jewell Avenue and Southwest Boswell Avenue. The closure is being put in place to allow a crane to be installed for construction work on the university's campus.

Drivers are encouraged to follow marked detours while the road work is in progress. These include the following for eastbound and westbound drivers on Southwest 17th Street:

  • Eastbound 17th Street to MacVicar Avenue, then south on MacVicar Avenue to 21st Street, east on 21st Street to Washburn Avenue and north on Washburn Avenue to 17th Street.
  • Westbound on 17th Street to Washburn Avenue, then south on Washburn Avenue to 21st Street, west to 21st Street to MacVicar Avenue and north on MacVicar Avenue to 17th Street.

Harrington said the work is expected to last until Monday, Sept. 16. The contractor for this project is Crossland Construction.
