Firefighters battle Sherwood blaze caused by pile of yard debris
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Firefighters are battling a large brush fire in Sherwood, officials announced on Wednesday morning.
Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the report around 3 a.m. The agency said the blaze was caused by a pile of reclaimed yard debris in an industrial area at the end of Southwest Dahlke Lane. It then spread to a nearby area.
Although there were no more flames as of 9 a.m., Public Information Officer Timothy Nokes revealed crews are expected to remain on the scene until around 12 p.m. to ensure the fire is under control.
Officials said there have been no injuries or structural damage to report. Investigators determined the fire was accidental, "most likely caused by spontaneous combustion in the large pile of mulch."
