Babar Azam slips out of the top ten in latest ICC Test batter rankings
Pakistan batter Babar Azam fell down to the 12th spot in the latest International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Test batter rankings with disappointing performances in the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh which Pakistan lost.
On the other hand, Bangladesh clean sweeping the series against the Men in Green saw several of their players move up in the rankings.
Litton Das’s amazing 138-run knock to rescue Bangladesh in the second Test and carry them to a total of 262. The wicketkeeper-batter moved up to 15th in the Test batter rankings. Bangladesh all-rounder, Mehidy Hasan Miraz who was awarded with the Player of the Series award moved up to 75th place with the bat and to 7th in the all-rounders list.
Over in England, star batter Joe Root came out as the top Test batter in the latest Test batter rankings. Consecutive tons for Root against Sri Lanka during the Lord’s Test helped him in extending his lead atop the ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings. Root (922 points) now leads the chart by 63 points over New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.
Even though Root performed exceptionally well in the second Test of the 3-match series against the Lankan Lions, his performance was overshadowed by Gus Atkinson who not only took a 5-wicket haul but also scored a century and was thus, awarded with the Player of the Match award.
After becoming just the third player in Men’s Test history to score a century and claim a five-wicket haul at Lord’s, Atkinson moved up 48 spots, into the top 20 for all-rounders, and into the top 30 for bowlers.
