LCG asks councils to consider suspending Marshal's Office 2% conditional pay increase

LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The Lafayette City Marshal's Office will receive a 2% conditional pay increase, but there's a twist. On Tuesday, the Lafayette Consolidated Government is asking the parish and city councils to consider an ordinance suspending the increase.

Lafayette City Marshal, Reggie Thomas, said he fully supports the suspension because there's another plan in place.

LCG said suspending the 2% conditional pay raise allows the new LCG pay plan to replace it.

Thoms said LCG brought this to his attention, and he agreed.

"We will forego the 2%. The pay adjustment will be for non-civil service employees, and they will get the increase," Thomas said.

The marshal said a pay adjustment is already included in the upcoming fiscal year budget.

"No, we have no problem with what the administration is doing. We think that all employees should be paid correctly, and this is the way the administration sees fit to pay the employees what they deserve to be paid," Thomas said.

The 2% conditional pay increase is provided when city tax revenues increase by 2%. In addition, the parish council gets to vote because the marshal's office serves some unincorporated parts of the parish.

The marshal sees the LCG pay adjustment for non-civil service employees as a positive and understands you can't have both the LCG pay adjustment and the 2% conditional increase.

The final adoption is scheduled for Sept. 17.
