NY Giants coach Brian Daboll takes charge calling offensive plays in 2024 season

0

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands, and that is exactly what Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll is doing this season, calling plays.

He called plays previously at Miami, in college with Alabama, and, of course, with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills before becoming the Giants' head coach two off-seasons ago.

Keep this in mind, 14 of the 17 offensive head coaches in the NFL call their plays. Plus, the Giants are coming off of a year in which they ranked 29th in total offense.

Now, play calling was not the reason why the Giants failed on offense last year. Injuries and lack of talent played massive roles.

He took over the reins at certain times last season from offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, but now he will do it full-time. The Giants promoted Kafka in the off-season to assistant head coach to prevent him from leaving the organization, but his role is now different.

This is a big third year for Daboll.

He has a really good offensive mind, which should lead the Giants to be more aggressive in throwing the ball down the field.

The Giants averaged 6.9 air yards per pass attempt a year ago, which tied for 25th in the NFL. That will change this season.

This is also great news for incumbent quarterback Daniel Jones because Daboll should be able to get the very best out of his maligned signal-caller.

As the saying goes, control what you can control; Brian Daboll is doing just that.

Until next time, New York, I'm Marc Malusis.
