Tottenham player could join Belgian side on loan this week – Club insider reports
The transfer window may be shut for English clubs, but there is still time for clubs in Belgium to sign players. Now, it has emerged that Westerlo may be looking to snap up one of Tottenham’s hottest young talents on a loan deal.
Alfie Devine may get a loan move after all
It was a busy summer for Spurs, with 15 players leaving the club in various different ways. Some came to the end of their contract or had their deal terminated, others moved on permanently after being sold to other clubs.
The Lilywhites have made good use of the loan market, too, with the likes of Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz, and Dane Scarlett all sealing temporary moves to gain first-team experience.
Now, the latest player to be linked with a loan move is Alfie Devine, and Spurs insider Paul O’Keefe reckons the midfielder could be off to Belgium.
O’Keefe tweeted: “Alfie Devine subject to serious interest from Westerlo in Belgium who are leading the race for him to join on loan. Talks continue. Other interested parties in Belgium too.”
If Westerlo were to seal the deal, it would see Devine joining up with Luka Vuskovic. The Croatian defender is on loan with the Belgian side this season in advance of his eventual arrival at Tottenham next summer.
A different proposition for Devine
Devine spent last season on loan at Port Vale in League One, before heading to Plymouth Argyle in the Championship for the second half of the campaign.
There was plenty of interest in Devine all summer, with Alasdair Gold claiming that Blackburn Rovers, Swansea, Parma, and other clubs in Europe were all looking at the 20-year-old on loan.
Spurs Web Opinion
On one hand, it would be cool for Devine to link up with Vuskovic, and you’d like to think he would be starting every week and tearing it up in Belgium.
But, I do wonder if the Belgian league is strong enough for a player like Devine to make it worthwhile.
