Report: Tottenham believed to be among those to oppose new ticket price caps
Tickets for fans attending Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League matches will become cheaper next season, but Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be one of three clubs that opposed those plans.
Tottenham may have objected to ticket cap proposal
A vote was carried out recently to determine whether European ticket prices should be reduced. As of this season, clubs can charge visiting fans a maximum of £50 in the Champions League, £34 in the Europa League, and £17 in the Conference League.
Next season, those prices will drop to £42 in the Champions League, and £30 in the Europa League. However, according to a report from The Telegraph, Spurs did not want this to happen.
The report claims at least three clubs opposed the plans, with Tottenham thought to be one of them. Despite the objections, it is unknown at this time whether the club actually voted formally against the proposal.
Tottenham Hotspur were contacted to comment on the matter, but did not disclose how they voted or offer any further information on the reported stance.
It is noted that Rebecca Caplehorn, Tottenham’s director of football administration and governance, is a member of the European Club Competitions Committee, the group that actually pushed for the price reductions.
Tottenham come in for more criticism
This is not the first time the club has been in the firing line regarding ticket prices. In the last few months, Tottenham have revealed plans to put a stop to senior concession tickets from next year, claiming the discounts were not sustainable.
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust openly opposed this plan and launched a petition to try and retain the discounts for OAP season ticket holders.
Spurs Web Opinion
This is a joke really. The club makes more than enough from general tickets from its own fans, without trying to keep ticket prices high for away supporters.
Not only are they trying to charge opponents more, but they’re making sure that Spurs fans get charged more, too.
