I left a toxic relationship and moved into my parents’ shed – it has electricity & wifi but no toilet or shower
A WOMAN has revealed how she ended up leaving her home and living in her parents’ shed.
Brandy took to social media to show off her new tiny home which had a tiny kitchen but no shower or toilet.
The young woman revealed she got away from a toxic relationship and decided to live in the shed while she saved up for her own place.
She said: “I recently ended a toxic relationship and moved onto my parents property I live in a 9×16 shed that has electricity and wifi.”
While it didn’t have a toilet installed the savvy woman got around the issue by purchasing a RV toilet.
She continued: “Going to stay here for a year and save up for a container home.”
“This shed has humbled me,” she admitted. ” I got rid of so much stuff I never really needed.”
Brandy also explained that she had to walk to the house to shower as the shed didn’t have one installed.
Despite some of the downsides, Brandy had managed to turn it into an adorable home.
On one side of the shed she had her double bed kitted out in a cute lilac bed set and her cat lying on top.
In the middle of the room she had a clothes rail hung up which doubled as a privacy curtain to hide her kitchen in the evening.
The kitchen itself had a fridge freezer, small oven and coffee maker along with a sink.
To the left hand side she had a small dining table to sit at as well.
The post which was shared on the Facebook group, Small Space Living, where it received over 8,000 likes and over 800 comments.
People were quick to praise her for putting herself first and making the tiny shed her home.
One person wrote: “Love it! Enjoy!”
Another commented: “I wouldn’t mind living there it’s beautiful, praying for your financial freedom and happiness.”
“I absolutely love this space! What amazing details,” penned a third.
Are tiny homes legal in the UK?
TINY houses can be UK regardless of whether they are on a trailer base or not. The legality of tiny houses is all to do with where it is and what you use it for.
If you want to put your tiny house in the back garden of the home that you own, and the overall size of your tiny house does not exceed 19.8m x 6.7m (65ft x 22ft), then good news! You do not require planning permission.
Tiny houses that fit within these dimensions and are constructed on trailer bases are legally classified as caravans, which means you can legally park them within the curtilage of your home without planning permission.
If this is your plan, then it is a legal requirement that you only use the tiny house as additional living space, like an office, a gym, or a studio, but you cannot rent out the space to a tenant.
For those of you who live on farmland, what is defined as curtilage can be complicated. In these cases, and under any circumstances where you are unsure, we recommend that you speak to your local planning officer.
You can put a tiny house on your land as a temporary structure for 28 days, but for any longer than this we recommend that you speak to your local planning officer as different permissions will be required.
