Caldwell Parish man allegedly caught on video choking deer to death; arrested
CALDWELL PARISH, La. (KTVE/KARD) -- A Grayson man has been arrested after a video showed him allegedly choking a fawn to death, authorities said.
Taryn J. Varnell, 18, of Grayson, was arrested Aug. 21 and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and taking a spotted fawn.
The investigation began on July 9, when agents were made aware of a video showing Varnell allegedly choking a fawn to death. Authorities contacted Varnell at his residence and he reportedly admitted to officials that he was the person in the video who was choking the fawn, authorities said.
According to officials, Varnell may face civil restitution totaling $1,624 for the replacement value of illegally taking the deer.
He was booked into the Caldwell Correctional Center. Bond details were not released.
