Free new streaming service arrives on Sky TVs TODAY filled with hit US series, exclusive British dramas and comedy
A LONG-AWAITED free streaming service has started to appear on Sky TVs today.
And there’s a trick to unlock it if the platform doesn’t appear on your screen just yet.
U is the new name for UKTV Play[/caption]It features a number of well-known hit US shows, as well as exclusive UK dramas and comedy.
The recently launched U app is the streaming destination for channels U&Dave, U&Drama, U&W and U&Yesterday.
U was previously known as UKTVPlay but this is the first time the app has been accessible via Sky.
Among U’s exclusive shows is British crime drama Whitstable Pearl, which recently added its second series boxset.
The show follows Pearl Nolan, a restaurant owner in the Kent coastal town of Whitstable, who sets up a local detective agency after undergoing police training in an earlier career.
A third series of Whitstable Pearl has been given the greenlight.
Elsewhere, U has a load of new and old comedy.
Original comedy reality gameshow Battle in the Box, hosted by Jimmy Carr, is based on a hit Korean format, where pairs of comics and celebrities battle it out for pride, prizes and most importantly, floorspace.
Latest shows added to U include:
- The latest season of Masterchef Australia
- Bangers & Cash: Live
- The original British series of House of Cards
- Who is Ghislaine Maxwell? documentary series
- Who Killed Jenni Rivera? documentary series
- Forensics true crime series
Sky revealed in July that U would be coming soon to Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
We can confirm that U is now available on Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
There is currently no word on Sky Q but it’s surely not too far behind.
Sky Q customers can still catch up on shows and watch box sets U’s channels on demand, as well as via Sky Go.
Users will have to create a free account or sign in with an existing one.
Be warned, as the app is free there are ads before and during shows.
If you can’t see the U app on your Sky Glass / Sky Stream yet, follow these steps:
- Go to down to Settings at the bottom of the main screen
- Select System Management
- Go to Resets & updates
- Click on Refresh apps
