I was named ‘the next Jeremy Clarkson’ when I traded a Bentley for ’80s EV – my new car is ultra-rare but cost just £1k

A PETROLHEAD who has been dubbed “the next Jeremy Clarkson” for his love of retro motors has shown off his latest bizarre buy.

Cormac Boylan bought his first Rolls-Royce aged just 20 but has now plumped for something a little more humble.

Classic car nut Cormac, now 24, had his passion for all things four-wheeled ignited as a youngster watching Top Gear.

He idolised motoring legend Clarkson as the face of the beloved BBC show and decided to follow in his footsteps.

A collector of weird and wonderful vehicles, he hit headlines earlier this year when he swapped his luxurious Bentley for a whacky electric microcar from the 1980s.

That was after buying the Bentley at 22 when he “got bored” of his first Roller.

He funds his fascination through his work as a radio DJ and freelance motoring journalist.

I found out how special of a car it was

However, he has now added yet another car to his expanding stable – welcoming his fourteenth vehicle before even turning 25.

Like most of his cars, it’s even older than he is and actually turned out to be incredibly rare.

Cormac admitted that he didn’t think much of the vintage Renault Fuego when he first saw it, saying that he usually only buys cars in “exceptional condition”, while this one doesn’t even run.

But he decided to take a gamble and agreed to snap up the sporty coupe.

He told Luxury Auto News: “We don’t know if the engine spins, we’ve got to get it registered on the road, check the bodywork and check if it needs new windows.

“There were no keys with it, so I’ll need to get some keys cut, too.

“It needs restoration.

“It’s one of those cars that I’d known about for a long time but then I’d forgotten about it.

“I found out how special of a car it was and I thought I’d give a French car a go again.”

It transpires that he is now in possession of one of the last Fuegos in the entire UK, with just eight known to be registered here.

He’s now determined to get it back on the road, adding: “I thought let’s do something different and saw this as a bit of a challenge.”

I hope to have a mansion in Monaco with a super-yacht, and a huge car collection

That being said, once it’s finished it might not last long as Cormac shows no sign of slowing his roll when it comes to acquiring new vehicles.

He has set his sights on some of the most special motors on the market, admitting that his dream car is a Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Other than that, he’s hoping to drive the Bugatti Veyron, Aston Martin V12 Vantage and Ferrari LaFerrari as soon as he can.

Ultimately, his dream is the same as pretty much any car nut.

He chuckled: “My ambition is to get onto national TV and radio, and to be presenting Top Gear and other TV shows as well as a motoring-themed radio show.

“I hope to have a mansion in Monaco with a super-yacht, and a huge car collection with my favourite supercars and classic cars so I can cruise around London and show off.”
