Spanish campsite right on a ‘Caribbean-like beach’ has £19 pitches and uninterrupted sea views

A SPANISH campsite just a few hours from the UK is said to have a beach that is just like the Caribbean.

Kampaoh Ría de Vigo is found on the north west coast of Spain, with views of the Vigo estuary.

The beach in question is Tirán beach, which is a five minute walk by a small wooden staircase from the campsite.

Not only does it remain quiet, being away from the busier resorts, but it is also protected from the wind due to the cliffs.

A local website said: “[The campsite] combines the magic of camping with a one-of-a-kind location in an environment of great natural richness, with spectacular views and direct access to a beach that looks like it’s straight out of the Caribbean.”

There is even the Kampoah Beach Club, serving food from breakfast to dinner as well as beer and wine.

And you can even book tents overlooking it.

The best ones to book are the Buka tents, which sleep two but have the direct sea views.

Of course if you want a more affordable break, there are other tents and bungalows at the campsite, some of which sleep up to six people.

You can leave the towels at home, unlike other campsites, as well as the cutlery.

There are charging points at each of the tents too, as well as mini fridges and even mosquito nets.

The campsite is a great option for Brits wanting a last minute hot holiday abroad that won’t break the bank, with temperatures remaining as high as 25C this month.

Pitches start from €45 (£38) a night, which works out to £19 per person.

There is even an offer on for anyone booking stays until the end of the month, with a 15 per cent discount.

And flights to Vigo can be found for as little as £14.99.

The only airlines with direct UK-Vigo flights is Ryanair when flying from London Stansted, and they take just over two hours

The campsite is then less than 30 minutes drive or taxi from the airport.

Previous guests have raved about the campsite, with one saying: “The location is unbeatable, the views… The beach is heavenly.”

Before heading to the campsite, you might want to add exploring the city of Vigo, with it becoming a popular tourist hotspot with Brits.

Not only does it have access to some award-winning beaches, but it is said to have some of the best seafood in Spain.

Brit Bernie Mitchell, 48, moved to Vigo from the UK a few years ago and said the town is “cute but not touristy”.

They added: “You get amazingly good food here for significantly less than the cost in London.”

Another expat, Oliver, 52, raved about the “world-class cuisine” as well as the “miles of pristine beaches and clear water”.

Three camping tips from an expert

David Scotland owns camping equipment retailer Outdoor World Direct and knows all about how to make a camping trip run smoothly.

When visiting any campsite this summer it’s important to make sure you’re not making simple mistakes that could ruin your holiday.

Check your tent

David recommends putting your tent up a couple of weeks before you’re due to travel to give you enough time to repair or replace any damaged parts.

He told Sun Online Travel: “You’d be surprised how many people turn up with broken tents.”

Test the ground

Picking a good spot to pitch your tent is difficult, with lots of things to consider.

One of those should be the condition of the ground you’re putting your tent on top of, according to David.

He said: “Once you’ve found the perfect spot, test the ground with your pegs before you commit to camping there to make sure the ground is soft enough.”

Don’t nap in your tent

It may seem the perfect place for it, but a nap in a tent could end badly, if it’s done at the wrong time of the day.

David explained: “If the sun’s shining and it’s hot inside your tent – don’t do it!

“One of our friends nodded off in his tent during a heatwave at Glastonbury and ended up at the medical tent with heatstroke.”

Instead, he recommends finding some shade outside or somewhere well ventilated.
