Charter bus catches fire on I-10 Monday evening
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A charter bus caught on fire Monday evening on I-10 near the North University Avenue exit, according to authorities.
There were about 40 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
Authorities said the bus was traveling on I-10 at around 6:40 p.m. when one of the tires blew, resulting in a spark that caused the fire to ignite.
Passengers were outside of the bus, safe, when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Authorities said a wheel well was on fire and that firefighters were able to contain the fire to the exterior of the bus.
The wheel well was on fire. The fire department said that the exterior of the bus was damaged from the fire.
Passengers of the bus were taken to a nearby travel center, authorities said.
