Report: The 15 Spurs players called up for international duty and the 12 left behind
We may be just three games into the Premier League season, but an international break is now in play. Here’s a look at all the players heading off to represent their country, and the 12 players sticking around at Hotspur Way.
Who’s on international duty this month?
There are a total of 15 Spurs players on international duty for the upcoming round of fixtures. Of them, 13 are a part of Ange Postecoglou‘s senior squad, with eight being regulars in the starting lineup.
Among the 15, there are four call-ups to international youth teams, with Wilson Odobert representing France Under-21s, Archie Gray turning out for England Under-21s, Alfie Devine with the England Under-20s, and Mikey Moore the Under-19s.
In the Nations League, Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie will represent Italy, Radu Dragusin will feature for Romania, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski are in the Sweden squad, and Ben Davies and Brennan Johnson got the nod for Wales.
Meanwhile, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma will represent Senegal and Mali, respectively, in AFCON qualifiers. Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son are on World Cup qualifier duty for Argentina and South Korea, respectively.
The full list of call-ups:
- Guglielmo Vicario (Italy)
- Destiny Udogie (Italy)
- Radu Dragusin (Romania)
- Cristian Romero (Argentina)
- Ben Davies (Wales)
- Brennan Johnson (Wales)
- Yves Bissouma (Mali)
- Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal)
- Archie Gray (England Under-21)
- Lucas Bergvall (Sweden)
- Dejan Kulusevski (Sweden)
- Alfie Devine (England Under-20)
- Mikey Moore (England Under-19)
- Wilson Odobert (France Under-21)
- Heung-min Son (South Korea)
Who’s staying behind?
However, it’s disappointment for 12 of the Tottenham squad, who have not been called up for their countries.
In particular, James Maddison has been left out of Lee Carsley’s first England squad, while Pedro Porro is still unable to get a call for Spain.
Micky van de Ven‘s injury rules him out for the Netherlands, as does Rodrigo Bentancur’s international ban for Uruguay.
Here’s everyone remaining at Hotspur Way:
- Fraser Forster
- Brandon Austin
- Alfie Whiteman
- Djed Spence
- Pedro Porro
- Micky van de Ven
- Sergio Reguilon
- James Maddison
- Rodrigo Bentancur
- Timo Werner
- Dominic Solanke
- Richarlison
Players remaining at the club will get a chance to recover from injury, work on tactics with Ange Postecoglou, and prepare for the next game – the big North London derby against Arsenal on September 15th.
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s great to see Lucas Bergvall get a call-up to the senior Sweden squad. But, the main talking point for me is the fact Pedro Porro still isn’t in the Spain squad. He’s playing so well lately and has done for a while now, and it’s ridiculous that he’s not getting a look-in.
