How Jerod Mayo Responded To Patriots Rookie’s Traffic Incident

Patriots rookie Javon Baker got himself into minor legal trouble over the weekend, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that New England had some type of response.

Baker filmed himself on Instagram Live on Sunday receiving a traffic ticket. The 22-year-old went on a rant at the police officer.

"Some hating ass police officers in Massachusetts," Baker said.

While it might have been humourous for some fans, it was no laughing matter for head coach Jerod Mayo.

"Everything that you just stated in no way represents what the organization is about, in no way represents what we are about as a team or how Javon needs to go out there and represent himself," Mayo told reporters Monday, per team-provided video. "We've handled it internally. We had a great conversation. I think it's a combination of immaturity and just realizing the grand scheme. We're on a big stage here, and you can't do those things. As far as our relationship with law enforcement and things like that, I think it's outstanding, and we'll continue to strengthen that relationship going forward."

Mayo added that the punishment for Baker did not include missing a game, but there was discipline for his actions Sunday.

The rookie wide receiver fell to the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and also went on Instagram Live to call out the teams that passed on him. One of the knocks on the UCF product was possible off-the-field issues that might have been highlighted in "Hard Knocks: Offseason."

Baker had a quiet training camp but did make the active roster. Mayo and the coaching staff will hope that the wideout makes use of his opportunities and moves past this traffic ticket incident.
