New border procedure takes effect in Finland: streamlining asylum applications

As of September 1, 2024, Finland has implemented a new border procedure aimed at expediting the processing of asylum applications. This follows recent legislative amendments to the Aliens Act, marking a significant shift in how asylum claims are handled at the country’s external borders.

The newly introduced border procedure applies to individuals who seek asylum at Finland’s external borders from September 1 onwards.
